How to Download Instagram Videos and Reels as MP4

Download Instagram videos and Reels as HD MP4 with DolphinRadar. Follow the steps, save clips with available audio, and fix common download problems.

READY TO GROW ON INSTAGRAM?

Learn how to build an effective strategy by analyzing who your audience follows and what content they engage with.

To download Instagram videos and Reels as MP4, copy the link to a public video, open DolphinRadar’s Instagram Video Downloader, paste the link, and select Download. When the video appears, use its individual download control to save the MP4 to your phone or computer. You can also start with a public username and choose an available video from that profile.

The browser-based tool is free for video downloads, requires no Instagram login, and saves the video with its available audio. Use it to keep a tutorial, save your own public clip, or collect an authorised video reference for offline viewing.

Which Instagram Videos Can You Download as MP4?

DolphinRadar supports publicly available feed videos, Reels, and individual videos within carousel posts. Choose the video itself when a post contains a mixture of photos and clips.

Content typeWhat to downloadWhat to select
Public ReelThe available video as an MP4The Reel link or the relevant video in a profile’s Reels results
Public feed videoThe available video and its audioThe video post link or its returned video item
Video in a mixed carouselAn individual available video from the postThe video item, rather than a photo or the carousel’s cover image
Private, deleted, or unavailable videoNot accessible through this public-content workflowUse content you can access through an authorised source

Stories and Highlights use a different entry point. If that is the format you need, see the Instagram Stories and Highlights download guide.

How to Download an Instagram Video or Reel With DolphinRadar

Open Instagram in the app or your browser and find the video you want to keep. Use the post’s sharing options to copy its link. For a carousel, copy the post link, then choose the available video item after the results load.

If you are starting from a creator rather than a specific post, note the public account’s username. This lets you browse available videos and select the one you need.

Open the Instagram Video Downloader. Paste the link into the field labelled “Enter username or post URL”, then select Download. Use the same field if you are searching by username.

Start with a public video link or username in the Video Downloader.

Step 3: Choose the Video You Want to Save

When results appear, check that you have the intended account and video. A username search can return multiple items, so use the available Posts or Reels results to find the right one.

Select the individual video’s download icon. In a mixed carousel, check that the selected item is a video; downloading a photo from the same post will not produce a playable MP4.

Use the download icon on the video card you want to keep.

The individual download control is the one needed for this walkthrough. The separate Download all banner covers a broader export workflow and is not required to save one video.

Step 4: Save the MP4 and Open It

Follow your browser’s download or save prompt, then open the completed file from its download list. Check that the file has an .mp4 extension, contains the intended video, and plays normally. Turn up the playback volume to check the sound.

Instagram to MP4: Downloading vs. Converting a File

Searching for an “Instagram MP4 converter” often means you want a local copy of an Instagram video. With DolphinRadar, the task is to retrieve an available public video and save it as an MP4. You do not need a separate conversion step for that download.

Changing an existing file from MOV or another format to MP4 is a different task that requires a suitable conversion tool. Renaming a file’s extension does not convert it. Likewise, a photo in a carousel remains an image; select an actual video item to download an MP4.

Where to Find the Downloaded Video on Your Device

The browser handles the final save location. Start with its download list if the video does not appear where you expected.

DeviceWhere to checkNext step
Windows or MacThe browser’s Downloads list and the selected download folderOpen the MP4 in your usual video player.
iPhone or iPadSafari’s download list or the Files appOpen the file there. If your device offers Save Video, use it to add the clip to Photos.
AndroidThe browser’s download list or Downloads in the Files appOpen the file in a video player; gallery visibility depends on your device and settings.

A successful browser download does not always place the video directly in your photo gallery. Find the file in Downloads first, then organise it using your device’s available options.

HD MP4, Audio, and Watermarks

Download watermark-free Instagram feed videos, Reels, and carousel videos in HD MP4. Available videos or photos will appear in high quality.

MP4 downloads include the video’s available audio. DolphinRadar does not add its own watermark; captions, logos, and watermarks already present in the source video remain.

Why Is My Instagram Video Download Not Working?

Check the link, the original video, and the browser’s current message before trying again. A missing result does not, by itself, prove that the creator deleted the video.

ProblemWhat to check
No video appearsCheck the link or username and confirm that the original content is still public and available. Unsupported links and temporary retrieval errors can also prevent a result.
A photo downloads instead of a videoCheck whether the post is a mixed carousel. Select the video item and use its own download control.
The download does not startCheck the browser’s download list, any displayed download permission, available storage, and the page’s error message.
The MP4 has no audible soundCheck the player’s mute setting and device volume, then compare with the original video. The download can only include audio available with the retrieved media.
The saved video will not openMake sure the download completed and try another suitable video player. If the file is incomplete, return to the correct video and download it again.
An access check or temporary error appearsFollow the instructions displayed on the page. If retrieval remains unavailable, try later or ask the creator for an authorised copy.

Can I repost a downloaded Instagram video?

Downloading does not transfer ownership or grant reuse rights. Obtain the creator’s permission or an appropriate licence before republishing, editing, distributing, or commercially reusing someone else’s video.

Save the Video You Need as MP4

Open DolphinRadar’s Instagram Video Downloader, paste a public video or Reel link, and save the available video using its download control. Open the MP4 to confirm playback and sound before relying on it for offline use.

If you need images instead, follow the Instagram photos and posts download guide. Keeping each format in its own workflow makes it easier to save the right file.
